Minor Attractions Vol 4 – Old Town and Fun Spot USA
Posted by disneyholidaytownhome on November 21, 2007
While on a weekend to Disney Holiday Townhome (DHT) for cleaning and re-stocking, my family and I were planning on taking a day to head to Disney. There was only one problem – my wife forgot the season passes! We actually had more to do that we thought, so this wasn’t the end of the world. However, we still had some free time. We decided we should try something new – or, should I say, “old”.
Old Town
Old Town! Of course! My wife and I had been to Old Town about 13 years ago. I had completely forgotten about it. The last time we were there, it was one street with a few shops and restaurants. Thirteen years later, it has really grown into an attraction that can take several hours to explore.
Located just over 3 miles west on US 192 from DHT, Old Town has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and carnival rides. Old Town also hosts car shows on Friday and Saturday nights. I’m not a huge car buff, but even I was impressed with the condition of these cars. Corvettes, Mustangs, and much more! Old Town also hosts special events throughout the year, and is available for your own events, such as birthdays, reunions, or wedding receptions.
My overall impression of Old Town? It’s touristy. But, remember – you’re on vacation! You’re a tourist, so this place was built with you in mind. Old Town will never be mistaken for Disney or Universal Studios, but it is a great alternative to the big parks. Free parking and no entry fee is also a very good thing. There are wrist bands that can be purchased for the rides.

Fun Spot USA
If you like extreme rides, such as skycoasters, or racing rides, such as go-karts, NASCAR simulators, and drag racing simulators, then you really need to make a trip to Fun Spot USA. The good new is that Fun Spot is located right next to Old Town! In fact, if not for some signs, you’d think they were the same attraction. I don’t remember Fun Spot being there the last time I visited Old Town, so I’m guessing that it is less than 13 years old. You’d never get me on the skycoaster, but it sure is fun watching people scream their heads off as they plummet to the earth, only to swing back skywards like some freakish pendulum. That, alone, is worth the price of admission – which is free, by the way! It’s a “pay as you go” park, with prices for most rides to be in line with what you would find elsewhere in the area. If you are a race fan or an extreme ride junky, you don’t need to head to the big parks to find thrills.

Combine Old Town and Fun Spot USA for an afternoon of thrill ride fun. Pick a restaurant for dinner, and spend the evening looking at cool cars and shopping.
